Right-wing ideology has bled into everyday life. Through heightened exposure in the media it has become not only accepted, but normalised. Flotsam is a postcard from a world we could be heading towards.
Filmed during a storm on a coastal farm in Pembrokeshire, South Wales, Flotsam contrasts the rugged, natural beauty of our little island with the behaviour of some of the people on it. Louise is warm, hard-working, welcoming and open-hearted. Her husband Henry is an upbeat guy who likes a joke, but we learn that violence and xenophobia are at his core. François is between the two. He is a vulnerable young French man who washes up against his intentions on UK shores. Can Louise shelter him from Henry?
Flotsam is on its way to festivals. Stay tuned for updates.
A huge thank you to everyone who has been involved or donated.
In a UK where all foreigners have been outlawed, a warm hearted farmer discovers the unconscious body of a helpless young French man washed up on the shore, and shelters him despite her husband’s violent xenophobia.
